Livestock slaughtering and meat production quarterly trend movements for September 2017:
Cattle slaughter increased 25,900 head or 1.4% compared with the June 2017 quarter and increased by 82,900 head or 4.7% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
The number of calves slaughtered increased by 6,200 head or 6.4% compared to the June 2017 quarter and was down 27,100 head or 20.7% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
Sheep slaughter increased by 180,700 head or 10.0% compared with the June 2017 quarter and increased by 305,500 head or 18.2% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
Lamb slaughter decreased 69,300 head or 1.2% compared with the June 2017 quarter and decreased by 96,200 head or 1.7% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
Pig slaughter increased by 14,600 head or 1.1% compared with the June 2017 quarter and increased by 44,700 head or 3.5% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
Chicken meat production decreased by 280 tonnes compared with the June 2017 quarter and decreased by 600 tonnes or 0.2% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
Receivals of wool decreased by 673 tonnes or 0.7% compared with the June 2017 quarter and increased by 2,350 tonnes or 2.5% when compared to the September 2016 quarter.
